Description

Illustration I did for a children's book, "Pint Sized Paul" that was just published on amazon. There is a limited time promotion so you can grab it for free here www.amazon.com/dp/B01ILTZ3LW  :D

I loved doing the forest backgrounds. I tried to make them look magical, with details and lighting. What do you think makes scenery magical? Studio Ghibli is a master at this but when I studied their background paintings there wasn't anything in them that you wouldn't expect to see in a forest (well, except maybe the kodama Kodama : Free avatar by TheDeathOfSen).

A lot of really fun things going on here, I might have picked a different POV, but then again all the really fun stuff would not have been seen. Now for things to point off, Now this seems very commercial and being a commercial artist I want to point out you put all the detail and contrast in the back ground and flooded the foreground with lighting and fading. Now it almost seems to work here and you have so many details to keep the eye moving about the picture. You have three different styles of racoon shown here, they don't look like they belong in the same drawing. The rocks in the mid ground appear to be floating. Now the over all art work sells the story and it is clearly to be fun but I also want to point out it appears several styles were used through the whole drawing...

Not to worry though, again this is cute and sort of like a find waldo picture with all the little "eye treats" when it comes to detail, I smiled while studying this and if I was forced to use just one word, that would be wonderful....
